About Chuck

Charlie Hurwitz is a Senior at The Pennsylvania State University studying Advertising and Spanish with minors in Sustainability Leadership and Global and International Studies. He has received the Provost Award, the Davis Ethics Award and completed the Chapel Executive Internship Program, making the Dean's List in all of his semesters. After graduation, Hurwitz hopes to travel through South America to gain a better understanding of the Spanish language, sustainable practices and indigenous culture.

Hurwitz writes creatively in several genres. While studying abroad in Madrid in the Fall of 2024, Charlie started writing through this very blog. Initially, the site showed travel recaps but evolved to reflect on music, culture and politics.  Live For Live Music, a music and production company, has published six of his articles. He has edited and written for the Focus Bryn Mawr zine, as well as self-publishing and distributing his own zine, Takin’ Time to Take Time and poetry chapbook, Out of the Gumball Machine, to raise money for Penn State’s Dance MaraTHON.

Hurwitz has leveraged his passion for writing and publicity to work creatively in advertising. This past summer, he completed an Internship with Red Tettemer O’Connell + Partners in Philadelphia working in their maker studio to design sets, setting up equipment and appearing on set as talent. In State College, Hurwitz works for Manny’s Performance Space writing press releases, artist interviews and promotional content. He has also served as the Social Media Chair for on-campus organizations, The Lion 90.7FM and the Men’s Ultimate Frisbee team.

Hurwitz strives to engage his community in sustainable lifestyles and ecological community building. He worked as a teacher’s assistant for an Environmental Science course at Penn State in 2023, a campus ambassador for Clean Creatives in 2025 and is currently working on a zine designed to introduce students how to access the many natural wonders found in the State College area.

Ultimately, he uses writing as a creative medium to express himself and showcase natural aspects of the world.
